Husillos and Pellegrini are getting things right; early signs are encouraging for West Ham – opinion

|

We might have signed Roberto and David Martin to bolster our goalkeeping department and, although they might not exactly be the types of deals to get us out of our seat and jumping for joy with, one thing is for certain – the club actually appear to know what they are doing this summer.

We needed a new shot-stopper to back up the sensational Lukasz Fabianski following Adrian’s departure, whilst a third choice being added to the books will go a long way into helping Nathan Trott being allowed to head out on loan and get the first-team football he needs to develop further.

Whilst the acquisitions fill a need that the Hammers have heading into the upcoming campaign, perhaps, it is also a sign of smart business and shows that Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Husillos are getting things right for us in the transfer window.

As Football.London have reported recently, the duo were free transfers who cost less to keep on the books than Adrian combined. With such a limited budget at the club’s disposal, they can be seen as extremely shrewd business moves and they, perhaps, allow us to have the financial resources still available for our top priorities.

It is no secret that our transfer budget is not as attractive as it was this time last year (Football.London), whilst having to rely on player sales to provide us with an increase is not necessarily an avenue we can take for granted, as Sky Sports suggests we will have to do. It would be difficult to see the players we are likely going to want to offload bring in huge transfer fees.

But, by being shrewd in the transfer market and snapping up vital needs with cost-saving exercises at this early stage of the window can only surely suggest encouraging times under Pellegrini and Husillos this summer.
