If West Ham are prepared to wait, they could complete a steal this summer – opinion

|

West Ham United are thought to have been put off from signing Manchester City’s Fabian Delph this summer, according to a report by The Times.

It is believed the Hammers have turned their noses up at the asking price of £10million and the player’s huge wage demands of around £80,000-a-week, which with the limited transfer budget Manuel Pellegrini is thought to have available to him (Football.London), it may be a smart decision to seek alternatives.

However, should the Irons still want to bring Delph to the London Stadium this summer, all may not be lost.

We know Manchester City are keen to offload the England international, whilst the 29-year-old is hardly going to want to watch his career stagnate waiting for his chance off the bench.

Should Delph look to push his way out of the club, then the valuation could come down whilst he might also be favourable to lowering his wage demands for first-team football – something we would be able to offer him.

Despite being a midfielder by trade, he has managed to convert into a successful left-back and is a player we could do with having in our squad moving forward, although it would seem Aaron Cresswell is here to stay after the club rejected a bid from an unnamed side (Football.London).

The 29-year-old is a winner, whilst he also has the experience that our squad could look to utilise to their advantage, especially if the board’s expectations have changed from a top ten finish to a place in the top seven (Claret and Hugh).

It remains to be seen if West Ham still want to acquire Delph this summer, however, if they leave it long enough, they might be able to get a steal before the start of the upcoming campaign.
