A couple of days ago, here at Vital West Ham, we covered the possibility that the Hammers could be set to sign another centre-back in what has already been a hectic summer transfer window.
Our article, Click Here, implied that the club were in competition for the signature of the 24-year-old Swansea City centre-back, Alfie Mawson, with our reputed rivals being Burnley and Fulham.
Today, it is being reported, by the respected news source, Sky Sports, that the club are set to miss out on the player.
According to our referenced source, it is looking extremely like Fulham are going to win the race for the defender, suggesting that talks between the two clubs and the player are at an advanced stage.
If that is the case then, sat here in the editorial chair, I have to admit I’d be disappointed the Hammers won’t be signing Mawson.
And it seems I’m not alone:
It’s a missed opportunity if we bottle it.

The Englishman has the potential to be a top-notch centre-back and could have prospered with the Hammers, however, it seems that life in West London beside the River Thames, appeals more to the player.
But if the speculation is correct, is anyone else slightly offended by this post from a jubilant Fulham supporter:
WHU's offer was probably 3m up front and 17m in 2025, and no one actually wants to live in Burnley 🙂

Whatever happened to respect?
But, if Manuel Pellegrini wishes to add to his defensive ranks, then he may very well have to look elsewhere.
