“Exactly what we need” – ExWHUEmployee believes West Ham should move for “fantastic player”

|

West Ham United are in trouble and find themselves in yet another relegation battle.

Before yesterday’s Premier League encounter with Newcastle United, the Hammers sat perilously close to the relegation zone in 17th place and were level on points with Bournemouth below them.

From 32 games, they had only scored 38 times and won just eight games, with creativity from the midfield somewhat lacking during the 2019/20 campaign under David Moyes’ watch.

Replying to a question from a fan on Twitter, ExWHUEmployee gave his views on Barkley and supported a possible transfer to East London in the future.

He added that it is not just because he is a big name, but also that he is a “very good player” and has believed so since he was a young player on Merseyside.

Should West Ham look to sign Ross Barkley?

No

Former Hammer Joe Cole made comparisons with himself, admired his technical ability and describing him as a “fantastic player”.

The 26-year-old would certainly improve the East London outfit, and provide plenty of strength in the depth to the midfield. Barkley has only started 11 games for Chelsea and it would be fair to say that he is only a squad player in the team.

Despite this, he has managed to average 2.1 shots per game, 1.9 long balls and a pass success rate of 88.5% (as per Whoscored). Incredibly impressive statistics for a fringe player.

The Liverpool-born middleman would improve the squad, for sure. Although as a former Chelsea man, it is a different prospect entirely in relation to whether the supporters would accept him.
