Another Diop: Bargain £13.3m target would help West Ham be in a solid position for years to come – Opinion

West Ham United are thought to be interested in signing Ozan Kabak from Stuttgart this summer, according to a report by The Guardian.

The 19-year-old has had an exceptional six months for the Bundesliga outfit and is thought to have attracted plenty of interest recently with his performances.

Kabak is believed to be available for a bargain fee of around €15million (£13.3m) because of a release clause in his contract with the German outfit and it is one we should look to take complete advantage of.

The teenager was recently named as the winner of the Bundesliga’s ‘Rookie of the Season’ award, which goes to show how highly-rated he is in Germany.

Although we already have the likes of Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena, the arrival of the Turkey Under-18 international would help to further bolster our defensive ranks and would help to solidify it for a number of years to come.

In his 34 appearances (including those at Galatasaray), the centre-back managed to put in an average of 2.5 tackles per game compared to Diop’s 2.1 in 33 Premier League appearances, whilst they both had a similar interception rate – with Kabak averaging 1.8 to the current West Ham man’s 1.9.

The defence has been an area of concern in the past, however, since Manuel Pellegrini has come in, it appears to have got better but adding Kabak would only further improve it.

We already have an exciting backline, however, bringing the Stugartt enforcer to the London Stadium would ensure we have a last line of defence that has a huge amount of potential and every chance of being hugely successful.

Imagine if he, Diop and Declan Rice – who would likely sit in front of them as a defensive midfielder – all reach the heights expected of them? We would be in a solid position in the future and one that would surely promise West Ham a lot.
