West Ham’s £13.5M-rated star needs to increase his attacking output

|

When the arrival of Javier Hernandez was announced at the start of last season, supporters were brimming with excitement. Despite a serviceable first season with the Hammers, the experienced Mexican forward needs to increase his attacking output this campaign.

During his spell with Manchester United, Hernandez established his status as one of the most clinical and proficient finishers in world football. That status was reinforced with his impressive goal-scoring record for Bundesliga outfit, Bayer Leverkusen. In 76 appearances for the German side, Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer amassed a commendable total of 39 goals. That degree of ruthless is required this season if we’re to progress under the guidance of Pellegrini. He is valued at £13.5M by transfermarkt.

This isn’t to insinuate that the forward endured a horrendous inaugural season with us, a total of eight league goals is decent, but perhaps it fell short of our expectations. A player of his quality and ruthlessness in the final third of the pitch should be aspiring to reach at least ten league goals.

Furthermore, while assessing our transfer business, we have made several tremendous signings. The likes of Jack Wilshere, Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko should augment our creativity and increase the number of chances created for our attackers. Accordingly, the quality of service that Hernandez will receive should be significantly better this season.

With this in mind, Hernandez should be able to find the back of the net with greater regularity this term. Without question, we’re all aware of his talent, in fact, every follower of the Premier League is aware of the quality that he possesses, it’s merely a matter of putting that talent to good effect. Hernandez has the potential to become a very significant player this season; he must fulfil our expectations.
