West Ham youngster continues to impress on international stage

|

Conor Coventry has continued to impress for the Republic of Ireland Under 21 in the Toulon Tournament.

He has been an integral part of the Ireland midfield in both their games, as they beat China’s Under 22s 4-1 and drew 0-0 against Mexico’s U22s.

This means they go into their final game against Bahrain top of the group, only needing to match Mexico’s result against China in order to secure the top spot and a place in the Semi-Final of the tournament.

The 19-year-old midfielder’s contributions to Ireland’s success further solidifies his pedigree at youth level, having already won West Ham’s Dylan Tombides Award at the end of the 2017/18 season and has represented Ireland in their lower age groups.

He also made his debut for West Ham’s first-team, having come on as a half time substitute in the 8-0 Carabao Cup win against Macclesfield Town – something he will hope to build on in the upcoming campaign.

This tournament, though, is another chance for Coventry to show his quality and it is one he is taking, having played every minute of the Boys in Green’s opening games.

He can look towards teammate Josh Cullen for inspiration going forward, as his fellow West Ham ace has progressed through the Ireland youth system and is now in the first-team squad, with a chance of making his debut against either Denmark or Gibraltar.
