West Ham set sights on £45m-rated forward as Arnautovic replacement

|

West Ham are set for a significant loss before the end of the January transfer window as Marko Arnautovic is widely reported to be closing in on move to Chinese side Shanghai SIPG.

That departure will leave the Hammers with a significant void in the final third and it is highly likely that Manuel Pellegrini will look to reinvest the funds they receive from Arnautovic’s exit immediately on a new addition.

Sky Sports states West Ham have turned their attention towards Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez, a player they initially targeted during the summer, but are reluctant to activate the 22-year-old’s £45m release clause.

The Uruguay international has scored nine goals and contributed five assists in LaLiga this season, with Celta Vigo languishing in the relegation zone, and he may be tempted by an opportunity to ply his trade in English football.

However, it remains to be seen if the Hammers fund a move and a deal is only likely to be financed if Arnautovic is sold.
