West Ham United had plenty of reasons for positivity following the all London clash with Crystal Palace last Saturday.
Hosting former England manager Roy Hodgson’s side at the London Stadium for the Premier League encounter, the Eagles did get their talons out and took the lead six minutes into the tie and we had no response in the opening 45 minutes.
Second half was a different story after manager Manuel Pellegrini had spoken a word or two of motivation and Robert Snodgrass had us level three minutes after the restart.
With a recent form run of back to back wins, we built on that and goals from Javier Hernandez and Felipe Anderson meant that a second effort from the visitors counted for little as we took a 3-2 victory, picked up all three points and made it three top-flight wins on the spin.
Speaking to the BBC as he met with the media post-game, our gaffer said that it was about constant slow improvements given a poor start to life in 2018/19.
“We are now in position number 10, five points from sixth position. Maybe the first five teams have so many points that it’s difficult, but we must go step by step and try to beat Fulham next week. I always look up. I never look down. I always tell the players they must have a winning mentality. They must decide to be a big team so we must be used to seeing what is happening in front of us.”
I think the final sentence is the telling one and lately, it appears more players are beginning to take that on board. Long may it continue.
