West Ham Looking to Strengthen Defence This Summer

|

Although here at Vital West Ham, we’re confident that West Ham United will retain their Premier League status, this season, things haven’t gone as we’d expected back in August 2017.

Perhaps one reason why the season has been one long continual fight to avoid relegation is down to the fact that when it comes to Premier League goals conceded, only Stoke City have conceded more than the Hammers.

To that effect, it is being suggested by one news source, the Daily Star, that the Hammers are set to prioritise the signing of a defender this summer.

Our referenced source goes on to explain that the indications are that the board wish to retain the services of David Moyes, as the manager, next season and that the Scot has already drawn up plans for next season.

Those plans, it would seem, include making moves to bring either of the following defenders to the club:

• Alfie Mawson (Swansea City)

or

• Lewis Dunk (Brighton and Hove Albion)

Mawson and Dunk, 24-years-old and 26-years-old respectively, fit Moyes bill of bringing in a tough, no-nonsense, commanding centre-back.

Whilst, in an ideal world, it would be good to add both to the squad, we doubt whether that will happen, but, given the opportunity which one would you prefer to see West Ham United sign?
