West Ham figure’s latest words prove that Gold and Sullivan have got the perfect man – opinion

|

What’s the aim at West Ham at present? What are the board going for? Are we just looking to stay safe in the Premier League? Are we trying to aim for a top-10 finish? Or are we trying to become one of England’s best teams?

If the answer to that question is the latter – and it should be – then it’s clear that Manuel Pellegrini is the right man for the job.

Following our game with Man Utd, in which we, undeservedly, left with 0 points, the manager has spoken of his desire to improve the Hammers.

Speaking about his time with Villareal, via the official West Ham website, he said: “It was 2004 and they were a very small team, but we were growing with a complete project with the club…My intention is just to try to repeat here in West Ham what we did there and when we played like we did on Saturday, I think we can do it”.

Of course, the two clubs were in different periods and they’re hard to compare. But what does this highlight? Well, it shows that Pellegrini has lofty ambitions – and he certainly knows what he’s doing.

At Villareal, he took over an underperforming team and turned them into European contenders? That’s a situation that sounds familiar to us, and that’s an exciting prospect.

If he’s backed financially, Pellegrini has shown over the years he can deliver the goods, and so it’s hard to identify someone that’s better suited to the task at hand than him.

Is it going to be easy? Of course not. But he’s got the tools, and maybe, just maybe, he’s the man to get us out of the funk that’s made life so tough as a Hammer in recent years. He’s made a good start so far – and hopefully things are going to get even better.
