West Ham fail in bid to land World Cup winner and club teammate in last-ditch bids – report

|

West Ham United have failed in their efforts to sign either Olivier Giroud or Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea, as Football.London report neither will be move to London Stadium on Deadline Day.

The Blues duo had become late targets for the Hammers despite their speculated interest in Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez, although the Uruguayan now seems set to stay in Spain.

As such, Mario Husillos, West Ham’s Director of Football, identified Giroud and Batshuayi as potential short-term solutions and looked to bring at least one of the international regulars across London on Deadline Day.

Giroud’s place in Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea side has become increasingly under pressure of late, and the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain will likely force the French World Cup winner out of the starting picture altogether.

As for Batshuayi, the 23-cap Belgian international has no future at Stamford Bridge at all, it seems, as the Pensioners are open to cashing in on the 25-year-old providing they receive more than the £33million they signed him for in 2016.

But for West Ham, neither players’ situation will lead to their arrival at London Stadium, as the Blues are reluctant to allow Giroud to leave this month, and Batshuayi is claimed by Football.London to simply not be keen on another loan adventure.
