West Ham dealt transfer set back as international edges closer to completing January switch

West Ham United will have to look for alternative strikers after Krzysztof Piatek opted to join AC Milan over the Premier League.

The Guardian reported on Sunday that the Italian giants had reached an agreement with Genoa for the striker, and would finalise a deal on Tuesday, which would see Piatek move to the San Siro for €35million (£30.9m) plus add-ons, and sign a five-year deal with Gennaro Gattuso’s side.

It had been reported before by Alfredo Pedulla that the Hammers were also in the hunt for the Polish international’s signature and were set to bid €40million (£35.2m) after seeing a €35m plus bonuses bid of their own rejected.

However, the 23-year-old preferred to stay Italy and make the step up in the country he has scored 19 goals in 21 appearances in since moving to Genoa in the summer from Cracovia Krakow.

The Express has reported that the Irons could target Callum Wilson in a £50million move should Pellegrini lose Marko Arnautovic to the Chinese Super League in January.
