Transfer News: World Cup winning goalscorer could be loaned in to help West Ham out of trouble

|

We all know that Olivier Giroud sounds like a type of West Ham loan signing, but this isn’t just an ironic signing that sounds destined to happen, it could actually happen in the current January transfer window. The Hammers have held a long-term interest in Giroud, and now the Frenchman could come in.

The 33-year-old Chelsea man is set for a Stamford Bridge exit in the next week, and whilst the World Cup winner, who famously did a lot of the dirty work for Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Griezmann and co during the 2018 World Cup, could be set to come in and do what he does best at the London Stadium.

The news has come from Football Insider, and the report claims that David Moyes wants to bring a striker to the club to give him some alternatives for the struggling Sebastien Haller, and it’s hard not to agree with the Scottish tactician that he may need some extra strikers.

It’s claimed that Giroud is being viewed as a direct replacement for Andy Carroll, who was released and signed for Newcastle last summer, yet the Frenchman is less injury-prone and has scored more Premier League goals in his career, so a short term loan would make perfect sense.

The article from FI claims:

‘The door has opened for West Ham to reignite their interest in Olivier Giroud as they step up plans to solve their striker problem.’

‘Manager David Moyes admitted at the weekend the Hammers are short of firepower and alternatives to record signing Sebastien Haller.’

‘Chelsea are ready to loan the France international out for the rest of the season as he seeks the regular football that can help him clinch a place in his country’s Euro 2020 squad.’

‘The 33-year-old has grown frustrated with his fringe role at Stamford Bridge, starting just three matches in all competitions this season.’

No way, typical Sullivan

‘West Ham want to bring in a centre-forward with a proven track record and who would not require a lengthy bedding-in period.

Giroud fits the bill after scoring 124 goals from 323 matches for Arsenal and Chelsea, with 78 of those strikes coming in the Premier League.
