Transfer News: West Ham flop is now ‘top priority’ for Barcelona in rumoured €25m move

|

West Ham fans haven’t got amazing memories of Lucas Perez’s time at the London Stadium. The Spaniard didn’t spell long with Manuel Pellegrini at the Stratford club, and in his single season for the Irons, he contributed six goals in 19 games, and only three in 15 in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

With that being said, though, the experienced striker is still a good player, and since he made his move to Alaves over the course of the summer transfer window he’s been in what can only be described as flying form, bagging himself a tidy nine goals and four assists in La Liga this season, including a run where he scored in seven consecutive matches (Transfermarkt).

His form has been so impressive that now he could be set to make a move to Barcelona, and it’s been reported that the Catalan club will have to meet his €25m release clause if they are to sign him, a move which is possible owing to a rule in Spain that allows for emergency transfers should a player suffer a serious injury outside of the regular transfer windows.

In this case, Ousmane Dembele has been ruled out long term, and the man that Barcelona want to bring in is Perez, according to Spanish outlet AS, and this comes less than a year after he was sold by West Ham after a disappointing season with the London club.

Was it a mistake to sell Lucas Perez?

Yes

No

The article from AS states:

‘One of the biggest priorities for Barcelona is Lucas Pérez, who could come in to replace the injured Frenchman. Tuesday will be a key day as the Spanish Football Federation’s medical committee will determine whether Dembélé’s injury is serious enough to allow Barcelona to sign a player outside the transfer window.’

‘Pérez’s clause is set at around €25 million. And Alavés will not be willing to lower their price because they risk losing a key player before they have guaranteed their stay in La Primera for next season.’
