This afternoon, West Ham United welcome Southampton to the London Stadium for a Premier League game.

After the events of the Burnley fixture, our last game some two weeks ago, the eyes of the media world will be paying close scrutiny to what occurs this afternoon.

With there still being discontent amongst the supporters ranks, it is hoped that the discord amongst the support is kept outside of the ground, at the preorganised protest, as opposed to breaking out inside the ground and bringing more unwelcome news headlines.

However, with the fixture today having so much importance for both cubs, with regards to the battle to retain their Premier League status, there is always the fear that something could happen, if the Hammers were to fall behind.

James Collins, who last time out found himself confronting a fan who was trying to plant the corner flag in the centre-circle, has spoken about the fears the players have of the situation getting out of control again.

Talking to the popular news vehicle, the Daily Mail, Collins had this to say,

“It`s like nothing else I`ve experienced in football.

“You can obviously sense that the fans are disappointed and frustrated at the minute but that certainly didn`t help anyone. And certainly not us on the pitch.

“We went 1-0 down, then all that happened in the stands and before you know it we`re 2-0 down and the game`s gone.

“So yes, obviously it affected us. We`ve got vital games coming up. And to play in fear of going 1-0 down and for that to happen again or something to go off in the stand… well, that`s not great, is it?”

Hopefully, West Ham will get the upper hand in this game and take the lead, then the support can get behind the side, otherwise I dread to think what the outcome will be.
