Summer arrival surely means exit for this West Ham man: Opinion

|

The new arrivals of David Martin and Roberto mean West Ham now have several senior goalkeepers among their ranks once again.

While the first question on the lips of plenty West Ham supporters’ lips following the Martin signing was why the club needed both, there is a second question and this one will need to be addressed: what happens to Nathan Trott?

The 20-year-old goalkeeper is among the most exciting young stoppers in England and was even in the Young Lions squad which won the UEFA Under 19 European Championship in 2017.

The youngster who was born in Bermuda was the Hammers’ third choice goalkeeper last season and even though he didn’t get onto the pitch, this meant he got important experience of how things work on a match day.

Now he has a battle to even attain that with two more senior keepers coming into the club, presumably ahead of him, whilst Lukasz Fabianski is clearly number one.

This means he can either battle it out with the pair to be number two or go out on loan; the latter seems like a more realistic and sensible option at this stage of his career.

Trott’s only experience of senior football so far has come in the Checkatrade Trophy, so having thrived in the youth ranks it is now important he is given a regular taste of what this entails.

There haven’t been reports regarding any type of move as of yet, but it is surely only a matter of time before the England Under 20 international is given a short term route to those all-important first team minutes.
