Exciting summer for West Ham man set to begin

|

With the season over, many a West Ham fan will be searching for any chance they can get to watch their beloved stars.

They will have a chance today, as Conor Coventry is part of the Republic of Ireland Under 21 squad who begin their Toulon Tournament campaign today at 14:30 GMT.

Coventry’s Ireland U21 side will face China Under 22 in the penultimate game to be played in the competition’s first round of matches- with England having lost to Japan in the first.

Ireland U21 will go into the game in high spirits, having beaten their country’s first team 2-1 in a friendly- a game in which Coventry played 45 minutes.

The 19-year-old centre midfielder won the Dylan Tombides Award at the end of the 2017/18 season and impressed for the Hammers’ Under 23s this campaign.

This earned him his first team debut, as he replaced Pedro Obiang in the 46th minute of West Ham’s 8-0 win against Macclesfield Town in the Carabao Cup third round.

He thrived in that game, alongside the more established academy graduate Declan Rice, as well as fellow debutants Grady Diangana and Joe Powell.

The Toulon Tournament will give Coventry another chance to test himself against some of the best players in his age group.

Following today’s clash with China U22, Coventry and his Republic of Ireland U21 teammates will face Mexico U22 on Thursday before facing Bahrain on Sunday.
