Report: West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen waxes lyrical about “incredible” Hammers’ teammate

|

West Ham United midfielder Jarrod Bowen has showered teammate Felipe Anderson with praise and has described him as “incredible”.

The 23-year-old has not had much time to adjust to life in East London, having only recently made his £20m switch from Hull City back in January. Since then, he has scored one goal in four Premier League appearances before all football was suspended.

During the space of his first four months at the club, he has had the opportunity to get to know all of his teammates but picked one out in particular that had taken his eye from the very first training session.

That man is Felipe Anderson. The Brazilian moved to the club in 2018 for £41.5m and had a fantastic first campaign with us, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists in 40 appearances. The 27-year-old has been unable to keep the momentum going and has had a disappointing campaign this year, with some fans saying they would be happy to see him sold at the end of the season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Bowen waxed lyrical about Anderson and has been left gobsmacked by his talent during training.

Will Felipe Anderson be sold at the end of the season?

Yes

No

“When I first came to training, Felipe Anderson, the skills he has got, are incredible”, he said.

“I think he was injured when I first came, but when he came back in training, the stuff he does, he is so calm about it and just makes it look so easy.

“He nutmegs everyone, luckily I am on his team for small-sided games usually, because he just nutmegs everyone and I don’t know how he does it.

“There are good players, but he has got to be up there with the best.”

It is a shame that we have not seen much evidence of this during the current campaign, as he has been very much off the boil for some time now, unable to replicate the scintillating form that we saw during his first 12 months at the London Stadium.

Granted, he is a skilful player and on his day, he can be one of the best players on the pitch. However, he does not do it often enough and our side have had real problems when it comes to consistency.

I’m sure that Bowen is right, but we need to see it more when it matters.
