Report: West Ham United preparing to up their bid to try and bring in Premier League defender

|

It’s a step in the right direction, and it shows that the club are fully aware of the problem and how to address it.

Now it’s just going to be a case of working out if he’s coming in on his own, or if someone is going to have to make way for him to get a place in the side.

According to a report in The London Evening Standard, West Ham are set to try and push even harder for the signing of Burnley defender James Tarkowski. Having already had a £27m bid rejected from Sean Dyche’s men, it is believed that a £30m bid with add-ons could be considered enough to make Burnley accept the deal.

Highly regarded at his current club, this would be a really great move to shore up our defensive line, but just what will that defensive line look like if and when he arrives here?

How much will West Ham spend this summer?

More than £50m

Less than £50m

I’ve spoken before about how the club needs to sell in order to invest, and one of the key names I’ve brought up in that process was defender Issa Diop who, was highly valued by some other clubs. However, if the club are using the money raised from the Grady Diangana deal in order to make this happen, then we could in effect be getting the best of both worlds.

Getting to keep Diop and adding a quality defender like Tarkowski at the same time would be a real coup for the club, and whilst it wouldn’t totally make up for the sale of Diangana, it might go a little way to making the club a lot more competitive this campaign.

Let’s just hope that the club do go down that path, otherwise we’re basically back in the same position trying to find a centre-half to fill that hole.
