Report: West Ham United look to €33m colossus defender in order to patch up defensive issues

|

There’s taking a step in the right direction, and then there’s taking a great big leap of faith.

And a move like this one more than likely falls into the latter category when it comes to business at the London Stadium this window.

According to a report in The Daily Star, West Ham United have turned their attention to Bayer Leverkusen central defender Jonathan Tah, as we look to sort out our leaky defence that’s been plaguing us for months. The report states that we are yet to make a formal bid for him as yet, and given the numbers behind the potential deal, it’s easy to see why.

A report from a few months ago when fellow Premier League side Arsenal were showing an interest, claims that the German side value him at as much as £33m. Now with some reports putting our budget at around £30m, it would more than likely take up a large chunk of our budget even if we were able to knock them down from their asking price from a couple of months ago.

Do West Ham United need another centre-back?

Yes

No

I talked a couple of weeks ago that it could very well be a case of quality v quantity when it came to West Ham’s last few signings of the transfer window, and this would certainly fall into the ‘quality’ part of the argument.

He’s very much more of a bruiser of a central defender, standing at 195cm tall, winning 2.7 aerial duels a game as well as an average of 1.6 tackles throughout his career, both stats which would compare very highly with his potential teammates at West Ham, so straight away he would be coming in to solidify that backline.

The question now becomes, are we willing to spend the kind of money to make it happen?

What about you? What do you make of this news about Tah?
