Report: West Ham set to chase £15m Welsh international defender having given up on Tarkowski

|

We’re going down the cheaper route, but will we be getting good value for money?

That’s the question we need to be asking ourselves as West Ham have reportedly turned their attention to a new central defender following the tug-of-war for the services of James Tarkowski. According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham United are submitting a £15m bid for Swansea City defender Joe Rodon.

The 22-year-old Welsh international has been tracked by a number of big clubs this summer including Manchester United and Manchester City, with United supposedly willing to pay as much as £20m for his services.

So if we’re willing to offer £15m and other clubs were willing to offer £20m, we could find ourselves in yet another back-and-forth over the fee, only this one might save us a little bit of money.

Do West Ham United need another centre-back?

Yes

No

I personally think that this would be an excellent move for us to be making, a quick look at this analysis piece from EFLAnalysis shows what a good defender he is, and add to that he’s managed to break into the Wales team (when fit), shows that he’s perhaps outgrown the Championship as a division. And whilst a move to a top six club like one of the Manchester teams might have been a step too far in the young man’s career, I think one to a lower-half Premier League team would be a great deal for him to make.

And with our budget seemingly set at £30m, a move like this would also give us a lot of flexibility when it comes to other positions that we might want to address this window.

What about you? Do you think that Rodon would be a good move for us to make?
