“Recipe for disaster”: Former Hammer Joe Cole gives his assessment on the current state of West Ham

|

I somewhat feel sorry for Joe Cole for all of this.

He goes on TV, and gives a brilliant, impassioned speech about the state of our club, trying to bring attention to just how badly things have been going recently with the club with the sale of Grady Diangana and the fallout from it, the potential departure of Declan Rice and so much more.

Then we go and win 4-0, which kind of takes away some of the majesty of his moment because it just gives that little hint that ‘hey, things might not be so bad after all if we can pull this off’.

Even so, I think we do need to revisit the point again, just because we don’t want the result to paper over what are some pretty big cracks at the London Stadium at the moment. Speaking on BT Sport before the game against Wolves, the former Hammer spoke about a multitude of issues at the club right now, but did his best to try and maintain some level of positivity around as well:

Do you agree with Joe Cole's comments?

Yes

No

Positivity that I’m sure will be boosted by the performance we put in last night. Now the question becomes whether or not we can make it a more consistent thing, and this wasn’t just a false dawn. I said when the fixtures came out that this stretch was going to be tough, and we’ve cleared the first hurdle.

And with Cole speaking about a disconnect between the fans and the club, I feel that a good run of performances and results would certainly provide a spark to getting things back on the right track.

What about you? Do you agree with Cole’s comments?
