Report: West Ham reportedly offered the chance to take promising Chelsea youngster on loan

|

I really hope this isn’t something that was cancelled on our end.

Because I think it would have been a real mistake if that were to be the case, and a major opportunity missed by the club.

According to a recent report in The Athletic, West Ham were offered the chance to bring on young Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori on a loan deal this summer as part of a deal that would have taken Declan Rice to Stamford Bridge, however ‘nothing came of it’, with the 22-year-old not looking set to join Everton instead. Which side decided to call off the deal hasn’t been revealed at this stage.

Would you sell Rice this summer?

Yes

No

As I said though, I hope it wasn’t us that called this deal off because I think Tomori would have been an excellent addition to the squad, especially if last season is anything to go by where he was routinely near the top of a lot of defensive categories stats wise for Chelsea, and was even rewarded with a call-up to the England squad during the last campaign.

Would he have been a total replacement for Rice assuming that he were to go the other way? No, of course not, just take a look at his stats and you can see that he’s arguably not in the same league as him.

But the idea of having Tomori for a season (possibly turning it into a permanent deal further down the line), as well as the influx of cash that we would have received for Rice, possibly up to as high as £80m which could then go on other areas of the squad, and that’s starting to look like an appealing proposition in my eyes.

What about you? Would you have liked to see Tomori come to the club this summer in some fashion?
