Report: West Ham in the hunt for 6 ft 2 Bundesliga “warrior”

|

West Ham United have been reported to be looking at bringing SC Freiburg defender Robin Koch to the London Stadium.

The 23-year-old is now wanted by a trio of English clubs with the Hammers rumoured to be one of them as he was named as one of the players that have been behind the Bundesliga outfit’s success during the 2019/20 campaign.

Breisgau-Brasilianer are eighth in the standings, just one point behind Schalke who currently occupy the final Europa League spot.

According to Kicker, Koch wants to play Champions League football next season and the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United have been interested in his services.

Although we are not currently playing in any European competitions, it may appear that Spurs will be at the front of the queue to take Koch away from Freiburg.

Would you bring Robin Koch to West Ham?

Yes

No

During the current campaign, Koch has managed to score two goals in 26 appearances for Freiburg in a team that has conceded just 35 goals in the league this season.

Both Leicester City and Norwich City were eyeing up a move for the Germany international in January. For some reason, those talks went quiet as he remained in his homeland. Koch would be a good replacement for Angelo Ogbonna, who at the age of 31, is in the latter stages of his career. During the current campaign, the German has averaged 1.3 interceptions and a pass success rate of 84.9%. In comparison, Ogbonna has only managed 0.9 interceptions and a pass success rate of 75%.

The 6ft 2 powerhouse has been described as a “warrior” and has had a lot of experience in the lower leagues of German football, which should give him the toughness that the Premier League brings.
