Report: West Ham can breathe a sigh of relief as Chelsea appear to turn away from signing Declan Rice

|

I think we can chalk this up as a win.

In the grand scheme of things, it probably is, but depending on how you see the club, then you might think of it as a bit of a missed opportunity, but I’ll let you guys decide what side of the fence you fall on.

According to a report from The London Evening Standard (via @WHUFC_News) Chelsea have accepted defeat when it comes to their pursuit of Declan Rice, as they have been ‘priced out’ of a move for the 21-year-old. Having been linked with a move away from the London Stadium for some time now, some might breathe a sigh of relief over this as they can finally put any and all talk of him leaving to bed. Well, until the next window anyway.

It’s no secret that Rice is an important player for us with the way he plays and the flexibility he offers the club by playing both in central defence and midfield, but I would be slightly hypocritical if I failed to mention what benefits he could have brought us if we’d sold him on.

Would you sell Rice this summer?

Yes

No

I’ve been talking recently about how the club could and should potentially be selling off some of our high priced players in order to help invest in the rest of the squad, and when it comes to valuations, Rice was probably going to be the highest of the lot and brought in the most for the team.

So that begs the question, is Rice more valuable to us on the pitch or with another team as it were?

Whilst I could see the benefits of selling him off as outlined above, I think his value to us lies at the London Stadium, rather than at Stamford Bridge for instance, but I’ll leave that up for you to decide.
