Proven goalscorer: Pellegrini’s ‘plan B’ would be exceptional addition if West Ham fail to land Gomez – Opinion

It might be another day, however, that does not appear to be enough to stop West Ham United from being linked with another possible transfer target.

We all know we are desperate to find a striker that is more than capable of finding the back of the net regularly and Maxi Gomez is the man that appears to be the man Mario Husillos and Manuel Pellegrini believe will do that for us.

However, should we not be able to get our top target this summer, it is thought we have an excellent backup option that we will turn to.

According to Foot Mercato, Porto’s Moussa Marega is believed to be our ‘Plan B’ and we are thought to be ‘concretely positioned’ for the forward.

Despite being 29-years-old, the Mali international may not fit the policy of bringing in young players to the club that Pellegrini and Husillos want to employ, he would still be an excellent option for us to be able to call upon.

Marega has been in rich goalscoring form for the last two seasons whilst with Porto, having recorded goal tallies of 23 in 2017/18 (Transfermarkt) and 21 in 2018/19 (Transfermarkt) in those campaigns – figures we would love to see one of our strikers be able to boast about.

The Mali international would fit the playing style and system that Pellegrini likes to adopt as he is incredibly powerful in the air and on the ball, whilst possessing bundles of pace to make life that bit harder for his defender.

Certainly a player we would benefit having in the team, the 28-year-old powerhouse would provide the Hammers with a reliable forward option and one that has all the potential of making himself a nuisance in the Premier League.
