Picking up win before int’l break is a sign of change at West Ham – Opinion

|

For the first time in three years, West Ham have managed something that they seemingly couldn’t achieve until after the international break. Win a Premier League match.

A 3-1 win against Watford saw the Hammers pick up their first victory of the new season and places the east London club as one of the 10 sides in the Premier League to have four points after the opening three games, and for Manuel Pellegrini’s squad, the result couldn’t have been more important.

With the Irons not managing a win before the first international break of the season in the past two campaigns, doing so now after a summer that saw big changes in personnel in the squad is a promising sign that West Ham heading in the right direction.

With Pellegrini having aspirations of taking the Hammers back to continental football in a previous interview with the club’s official website, starting the season off well is the best way to kick off this goal, and picking up a win before the international break, something West Ham have struggled with in the past, is the perfect way to lay a claim down for this statement.

As well as winning against Watford, West Ham have set themselves nicely to face off against Norwich City, a game in which the Hammers will fancy themselves sin after the Canaries fell to a 3-2 defeat to Chelsea over the weekend.

Two wins before the international break would seem like an unprecedented accomplishment for the Hammers and something the club hasn’t achieved since the 2015/16 season, a campaign in which West Ham finished in a European spot in the Premier League table.

A single win in the league can lay the foundation for a surging run that can motivate everyone surrounding a club, and this recent result over Watford for West Ham could be that event that kicks off what could be an exciting season for the east London side.
