£36m-rated star is showing he’s the man to break the West Ham curse – Opinion

|

It would be something of an understatement to say that in the 21st century, West Ham have had something of a striker problem.

And this is something the supporters know. Twitter user @TheChris1209 even created a handy little sheet to show just how poor Hammers attackers have been in recent years, with his findings showing that in 920 West Ham games, the 37 strikers to represent the club during that sample size have only scored 199 goals.

The statistic is a worrying one to be sure, yet the Hammers have done well to remedy this issue, spending a club-record fee this summer for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Sebastien Haller, and in only his second start for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, the new arrival is proving to be a promising addition.

The French striker scored twice in West Ham’s 3-1 win over Watford over the weekend, guiding the east London side to their first victory of the season, and even before Haller’s first professional game for the Claret and Blue, many were saying the 25-year-old attacker could be the one to break the striker curse.

The likes of West Ham World and Tifo Football are confident the former Bundesliga striker will be the one to snap the Hammers striking woes, and Haller, who is valued at £36m on Transfermarkt, is showing he is suited to the Premier League.

As well as finding his scoring boots early on in the season, his natural physique, athleticism and finishing ability make him a striker that can flourish in the English top-flight and make him a nuisance to deal with for most defences.

Indeed, with creative players such as Felipe Anderson and Pablo Fornals supporting Haller in the squad, the Frenchman has the support needed to become one of the Premier League’s most dangerous strikers, and if the Frenchman can continue his impressive weekend form against Watford into the next game, West Ham fans will have their striker saviour they have been so desperate to see.
