Opinion: West Ham’s intentions to sell this in-form star are incredibly harsh

|

West Ham fans may have been doing their utmost to focus on the season at hand and the players who they have on their books at the moment as opposed to those who won’t be taking any part in their campaign and who are out on-loan.

However, they’ve been given a key piece of news regarding one of the club’s loanees who has been in fine form for his temporary club. The player in question is the goalscorer Jordan Hugill. The QPR man has been in fine form in the Championship, grabbing half a dozen goals in 11 games so far this season.

Those stats are from Transfermarkt, and they certainly paint the striker in a good light as it shows just what he can do and what he has been doing so far since he left West Ham on a temporary basis. Although it doesn’t look like the Irons are prepared to take a punt on their man.

The news of West Ham’s intentions to offload Hugill have come from Football Insider, who claim that the club are keen to let the 27-year-old go in the mid-season January transfer window, despite his impressive form.

Should the Irons not be able to get a deal done for Hugill in January then they’ll be set to leave him be during his current loan and then attempt to work out a move that will see him sold in summer, despite the fact that he has a deal until 2022, seeing as he has no place in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans.

As far as we’re concerned, though, this is extremely harsh. Hugill has not been given a fair crack at West Ham, and even whilst we’re not claiming that the striker should be given a starting berth ahead of Sebastien Haller anytime soon, keeping him around as a back-up option and as extra rotation isn’t unreasonable.

At The London Stadium, the only out-and-out strikers the Hammers have to call upon are Haller and Albian Ajeti, so having one more man in the mix is hardly a burden for Pellegrini and co, even if that third striker is the lesser fancied Hugill.
