Opinion: West Ham would do well to sign impressive full-back

|

West Ham fans have been rocked recently by reports that after signing both Pablo Fornals and Sebastien Haller they no longer have any money to spend. ExWHUemployee confirmed that on Twitter, but that could still change, and the Hammers will be desperate for it too.

The fans are keen for some reinforcements at both left-back and right-back, and with links to an impressive French defender who can play both, you can understand why the supporters are desperate for an update confirming that they still have cash to splash in the final few weeks of the window.

That aforementioned Frenchman just happens to be Monaco’s Djibril Sidibe, and with the 26-year-old linked to the club by L’Equipe, via Get French Football News, the fans are desperate for there to be a little bit more money in the transfer kitty to get a potential 15m euro move over the line.

The right-back has been key at Monaco for a while now, and he was one of the stars in their triumphs in the incredible 2016/17 season in which Les Monégasques pipped PSG to the Ligue 1 title and made it into the last four of the Champions League.

Now, though, it looks like he’s on his way out, and with the Hammers needing someone who can start on either side of their defence with the talent to improve their backline, Sidibe looks like a perfect option, and at the age of 26 he has a good mix of experience as well as having plenty of game time under his belt.

The World Cup winner has scored six goals and assisted a further 21 in his 114 games for Monaco, Transfermarkt, and he looks like he has what it takes to star in the Premier League with West Ham, especially with their frailties at full-back.

On the right, Pablo Zabaleta is showing his age, whilst on the left both Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell have been questioned defensively, and Sidibe could be the man to step in and bolster the backline on both sides, seeing as he’s racked up 110 career games at right-back and 82 at left-back, Transfermarkt.
