Opinion: West Ham simply have to incorporate a number of stars for next season

|

The current crop of players at West Ham are good enough to survive, it’s just about stringing together enough wins between now and the end of the season to finish ahead of three of Norwich, Watford, Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Brighton before then building for next season.

There will be a few players in the current side that need to be shipped out, but when the 2020/21 season kicks off, we want to see the likes of Jeremy Ngakia, Declan Rice, Josh Cullen, Conor Coventry, Nathan Holland and Grady Diangana incorporated into the senior side and showing what they can do.

There are a number of high earners in the current West Ham squad, and cutting some of them loose, the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko, Jack Wilshere, Pablo Zabaleta and Winston Reid for example who cost the club £265,000 per/week (Spotrac), could save the club an abundance of cash in the long run that can be reinvested into player wages.

Obviously the young players would need to come in and perform, but having youngsters who have shown what they can do both for the Hammers’ U23 side and out on-loan in the EFL who would come into the side eager to play and hungry for minutes would surely be more beneficial than ageing veterans.

A lot will depend, of course, on who is in charge come the summer, as if David Moyes retains his pot there’s little chance that we see the likes of Diangana, Holland and co, as he will likely opt to stick with the old guard, but only time will tell.

Should we keep Moyes beyond the summer?

Yes

No

West Ham fans, though, all adore Declan RIce and the way he’s shot to stardom through the club’s academy, and giving the fans more of a feel-good factor by promoting from within, as well as providing the club with a base of young players, cannot be a bad thing.
