Opinion: West Ham midfield maestro is proving to be worth every penny the club paid for him

|

West Ham fans have enjoyed very few moments this season. The Hammers haven’t had the better season in the world, and after sacking Manuel Pellegrini the Irons have now appointed David Moyes, and after three games the form has started to change already, with two wins kicking off his second stint.

One man who can really be relied upon this season, though, whether the man in charge has been Moyes or Pellegrini, is the fantastic Pablo Fornals. The Spanish attacking midfield man may not have hit the ground running in Stratford, but he is proving to be worth every penny paid.

When adding all of the pennies that the club paid for Fornals up, the total figure comes to a whopping £24m (BBC), yet that fee will look minuscule in a few seasons time when the player has truly settled down and is playing his best football.

The former Villarreal midfielder is an incredible talent. At the age of just 22-years-old he’s already proving to be a wonderful player for the Irons, and whilst goals and assists weren’t flowing freely in the early stages of the season, his numbers have long been impressive.

In the Premier League so far this season, the Spanish midfielder is averaging 1.1 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.4 tackles per game (WhoScored), and if he can continue putting in the hard yards whilst adding goals and assists to his game then the Hammers will have a real player on their hands.

Will Pablo Fornals come good at West Ham?

Yes

No

Obviously, Fornals is already a top player, but he’s only going to get better as the games rack up, and as he continues to adapt to life in London the Hammers are only going to reap the rewards from the shrewd signing of the ex-La Liga ace.
