Opinion: West Ham are doing the right thing with player Pellegrini is a huge fan of

West Ham United’s Manuel Lanzini is a wanted man this summer.

According to a report by The Mirror, Fenerbahce are thought to be keen on snapping up the Argentine.

However, that same report also details a key piece of information that fills us with confidence and that the Hammers know what they are doing in regards to the South American maestro.

It is claimed the club are prepared to offer Lanzini a new five-year deal to remain at the London Stadium, despite still having a year plus the option of a further two left on his present contract.

Lanzini, who Manuel Pellegrini is also a huge fan of (Mirror), might have missed the majority of last season, however, he still showed he can be the difference and bring an added dimension to the team when he did eventually make his comeback.

The Argentina international is arguably one of our best players and it would be disastrous for the club if we were to let him go. The 26-year-old still has plenty of time on his side in terms of his playing career and is likely only going to get better as he gets back on the pitch more regularly.

He is someone who fits well within the system that Pellegrini likes to deploy, so he should start to thrive and make a huge difference to the side as we continue to kick-on with our ambitious aims. He did score and provide an assist in the ten appearances he made for us following that serious knee injury that forced him to miss out on Argentina’s 2018 World Cup campaign (BBC).

Lanzini has a good record for us in the Premier League, having notched 20 goals and 13 assists in his 98 outings in the claret and blue since 15/16 (Transfermarkt).

We were desperate for a player of his quality throughout the season and if we were to lose him, we would have a challenging time on our hands to try and replace him for good.
