Opinion: The games that West Ham need to be preparing for in this run-in

|

West Ham supporters are having a real wobble. The fears are that relegation will again bite them and next season they’ll be swapping trips to Anfield and Old Trafford for trips to the KCOM Stadium and Loftus Road, something that the fans really don’t want to see.

However, the supporters need not worry just yet, and the clashes that the Irons need to be preparing for and need to get points from are outlined here, as we know that whilst fighting against relegation, challenging yourself to get results against the top sides is wildly unrealistic.

This weekend’s clash against Southampton is the Hammers’ first of 11 remaining Premier League clashes that the Irons have left to play, and of those eleven games there are six games that David Moyes needs to be planning to take points from, and hosting the Saints is one of those games.

After the Southampton game, the Irons face a run of four games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Wolves and Tottenham, and those are not games that can be targetted, neither is their penultimate game of the season when they travel to Old Trafford in the reverse fixture of their earlier 2-0 win this season.

Those are the five games that do not look at all winnable on paper, yet the other six needs to see the Irons pick up at least 12 points to get to 36 for the season, a figure which should be enough to keep them up, especially seeing as they face Norwich, Aston Villa and Watford in that spell, the two teams below them and one above them in the table at the moment.

Should Moyes stay even if results don't improve?

Yes

No

Things will not be easy for the Hammers, but beating the teams around them will be absolutely key, especially considering that things are still in their hands at the moment and there are favourable fixtures around the cirner for this struggling side.
