Opinion: Midfielder with 11 assists this season could help transform West Ham if signed

|

It’s fair to say that West Ham need improvements to their squad, and fast. We’re struggling at present, and another loss at the weekend has put our very bleak outlook back into focus.

The important thing, for now, is to ensure that remain safe in the English top flight, but by the time January rolls around, the brass at the club simply must invest in the club to finally turn things around.

That’s apparently on the agenda, at least owing to a report from TyC Sports in Argentina. They’re stating that Miguel Almiron could be on his way to West Ham in January, with the Hammers keen.

This is exactly the sort of signing that we’ve been crying out for, and he’s a player that could really help turn things around.

Almiron is a classy and exciting attacking midfielder, and he’s best used in the playmaker role. He’s able to play across the attack, but sitting in the middle allows him to make the most direct impact when running towards goal. With bags of energy, technique and overall quality, he’s a real diamond across the Atlantic.

Currently playing in the MLS, that division is clearly a level below the Premier League, and that’s putting it lightly, but you can only play what’s ahead of you – and he’s done so brilliantly. With 11 assists so far this season, according to Who Scored, he’s an excellent passer of the ball, and he’s a real creator going forward. He’s also a very potent goalscorer, having bagged a whopping 12 league goals so far. That means he’s contributed directly to 23 goals in 32 games – a very good record indeed. It’s fair to say that he’s involved in everything going forward for his current club.

Given all our problems going forward, with Manuel Lanzini still injured and Andriy Yarmolenko now out, a move for the attacker makes perfect sense – and he’s exactly the calibre of player we should be looking at heading into January.
