Opinion: Local hero once again proved he’s West Ham’s key man on Sunday

|

Mark Noble will forever be a West Ham hero. The Englishman has been at the club his entire career, and once again the midfielder was at his influential best as he helped the Hammers record a 2-0 home win over Manchester United, extending the Hammers’ unbeaten run to six.

The midfield man played a crucial role in the first goal, that Andriy Yarmolenko took superbly on the stroke of half-time, and it’s very telling that when Noble features the Irons play much better football and pick up better results.

Between the last four games of the 2018/19 season and the four games that Noble has featured in this season, it’s now an eight-game unbeaten run in the top-flight for the Irons’ skipper, as per Transfermarkt, and his talents were clear to see against Manchester United.

Looking at his stats via WhoScored, the fan favourite made one key pass, took one shot and made a single interception as he completed 90 minutes and helped his side to a big 2-0 win, putting the Irons 5th in the Premier League after six games, only behind Arsenal on goals scored.

The veteran midfield man picked up a mightily impressive 7/10 rating from The Independent, bossing the Manchester United midfield as Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata could only pick up 5/10 ratings from the same outlet.

The next step for Noble and co is a cup clash against Oxford United on Wednesday, and then after that, the Irons face Bournemouth at Dean Court with the aim of staying in and around the European places, as a win will put some distance between themselves and the 6th placed Cherries, with Noble surely being key to getting a result there given his recent form.
