Opinion: It’s important that talented midfield catalyst is a West Ham player next season

|

It’s fair to say that we haven’t seen the best of Samir Nasri yet. We signed him back in January, and injuries and other issues have prevented him from having a big impact in London so far.

However, that doesn’t mean that we should let him leave when his contract expires this summer. In fact, a new deal needs to be on the horizon, as we could finally see the best of him next term.

Anyone that thought we’d be getting the Nasri of 0ld this season must have been kidding themselves. It was always going to be a tough season for Nasri, given his lack of action over the last year, and Pellegrini will have recognised that.

It was always going to be a case of adjustment, and after a few months back at the highest level, only now will we start to see the best of him.

Of course, there have been glimpses of talent from the Frenchman this term. With 2 assists this season, when he’s on his game, few are better than Nasri.

If we give him fresh terms, he’ll have had a few months to acclimatise to the Premier League in addition to an entire summer of hard work. That’s only going to offer us the best version of him – and that’s what we need.

He’s a whole lot more useful than just his ability, too. His experience is brilliant, and it’s clear that Pellegrini trusts him. To lose that would be a real blow, and that’s without considering his impact on the field.

A slight wage reduction may make him more appealing for the Hammers, but if the club can agree a deal, we’ll certainly be better for it.
