Opinion: Is it time for West Ham fringe man to get another first-team chance?

|

West Ham’s recent form has been rough, despite the fact that the Hammers had a great performance in their most recent game, a defeat at Anfield. As a result of the Irons dip in form, Sebastien Haller has been in and out of the side, and it could be time to turn towards a new man.

The French striker may be the club’s £45m signing over the summer (BBC), brought in from Eintracht Frankfurt for a club-record fee, but he hasn’t hit the ground running in his first season and hasn’t been the man that the fans thought they’d be getting when he signed.

However, the Irons’ big Frenchman isn’t the only striker that was brought in during Manuel Pellegrini’s final transfer window, as the Hammers also made the move to bring in the Swiss marksman Albian Ajeti for a fee of just £8m from FC Basel (BBC).

The striker turned 23-years-old yesterday, and many of the fans had a reminder that he is still at the club when the official West Ham Twitter account posted a happy birthday message for the forgotten striker as he turned 23-years-old, and it could be time for the Irons to give the youngster a chance.

In the Premier League this season, Ajeti has managed just eight substitute appearance adding up to a paltry 128 minutes (WhoScored), which is a far cry from his form last season as he bagged a massive 21 goals in 43 games for Basel in his final season with the club (Transfermarkt).

Do we need another striker?

Yes

No

Whether or not we see Ajeti, only time will tell, but given Haller’s poor form it doesn’t look like giving the Swiss international a chance would hurt at all, especially seeing as the Irons are hardly winning games anyway at the moment and relegation is a real fear.
