Opinion: Hard-working midfield man should thrive at West Ham under David Moyes

|

West Ham fans have got a lot of players who will be set for a change to their way of playing under David Moyes. The two systems that Manuel Pellegrini used routinely were a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-1-4-1, yet it looks like Moyes is going to be said to deploy a 3-4-2-1 system eventually when he gets going.

That was the system that the Scottish manager used last time out when he was in charge of the club following Slaven Bilic’s sacking. It worked then, and it should work now, but some of the personnel who are going to be given a go in the system are different to the first time around.

The likes of Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson are two of the main ones who will be interesting to see in this set-up, but the pair will undoubtedly be used further forward and should give Moyes’ side a great chance of scoring goals and blowing teams away.

Further back, though, in the engine room of the Hammers’ midfield, one man who we’re expecting to see a lot of is David Moyes’ countryman Robert Snodgrass. The versatile midfielder can perform to a Premier League standard on both the right, the left and through the middle, and his work rate is superb.

The ex-Hull City and Norwich man could be set to star as a midfielder in a pivot alongside either Mark Noble or Declan Rice, or he could also be used out in one of the wide areas, although if that is the case he could be forced to play as a wing-back.

Will Moyes turn our season around?

Yes

No

Whatever happens, we expect to see quite a lot of Snodgrass in the coming months, and whatever happens for Moyes, he will know that he can rely upon the impressive workhorse creative midfielder, something that can’t be said for a lot of his squad.
