Opinion: Weekend clash is first chance for Moyes to get a benchmark of this West Ham side

|

We are now three games into the David Moyes second coming at West Ham United, and whilst the fans will still be getting to grips with the fact that the Scot is their gaffer as they prepare for the next 18 months that Moyes has at the club, the fourth game is fast approaching.

That game, a home clash against Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton, is going to be a very interesting one. This is a game that is simply impossible to call. The previous three games in which the Irons have faced since Moyes’ arrival have been fairly clear cut, but this outing should show what the Hammers are about.

The first two games of Moyes’ time at the club came against Bournemouth in the Premier League and Gillingham in the FA Cup, and these were two games in which the Hammers romped through, scoring six goals without conceding across 180 minutes, before they fell 1-0 to an incredible Sheffield United team.

That loss to the Blades cannot be looked at as a shock given how well Chris Wilder has his team playing, and after that trio of results, this game against the Toffees gives the supporters a perfect opportunity to see where their side is and how up to the task David Moyes is.

For one, the Irons will be without Michail Antonio, Felipe Anderson and Arthur Masuaku, so there isn’t an awful lot of pace in the side and Moyes will be up against it as he lines his team up at the London Stadium to take on his former side Everton.

Will Moyes turn our season around?

Yes

No

Going into this clash, a draw probably looks like the most likely outcome, yet you can easily see how West Ham might either nick all three points or throw them all away as they take on Ancelotti’s side this weekend in a game that could reveal a lot about the Irons.
