Opinion: England international is the man to solve West Ham’s problem position

|

West Ham are interested in bringing Nathaniel Clyne to the club but face competition from Bournemouth, report Goal.

The Liverpool man spent the second half of the season on loan at Bournemouth, but will likely be available for around £10million due to falling behind Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez in the pecking order.

Although we have two first-team right-backs currently at the club, Clyne would be a real coup should he arrive in East London.

He was a key fixture in the Liverpool team prior to suffering a back injury in the 2017/18 season, and his form earned him 14 England caps between 2014-16.

With a regular run back in the first team there is no reason why he couldn’t get back to his top form and quickly become a fans favourite at the club.

He is as good defensively as he is going forward, his crossing is a particular highlight and Arnautovic would be grateful to have him in the side. Unlike our other right-backs, Clyne has the right balance of experience and youth. At 28, he is not exactly young but he is still physically capable, and his international and European pedigree would be a great influence on the squad.

Whilst Zabaleta has provided some consistency over the last two years, Clyne would definitely be an upgrade and make that position his own over the next few years.
