Opinion: David Moyes’ plans for 27 y/o striker could divide West Ham fans

|

Jordan Hugill has had a successful time at Queens Park Rangers during the current campaign, but does that mean he deserves a chance in the West Ham United first team?

With 11 goals from 26 starts and an average of 2.2 shots per game (per Whoscored), his attacking prowess in the Championship has turned some heads, and rightly so.

Despite this, Hugill has only ever played 22 minutes in the claret and blue, and his stint at QPR is his third loan spell since the 2017/18 campaign.

Taking all of this into consideration, football.london previously reported that Hugill is a “prime candidate” to become our new number nine under David Moyes next season. This is somewhat a huge gamble that we are taking, bearing in mind he has not played a full 90-minute match in the Premier League as it stands.

Does Jordan Hugill have a future at West Ham?

Yes

No

Sir Trevor Brooking, Sir Geoff Hurst, Tony Cottee, Jermain Defoe, Jordan Hugill? For me, it is huge pressure to place on the shoulders of someone so inexperienced. Just because he is performing well in the Championship, does not necessarily mean that this form can be easily replicated.

The reason why Hugill might split the judgement of the London Stadium faithful is his age. At 27 years old, is it too late for Hugill to make an impact on the side? Will he bring any more to the table that Andy Carroll did? This comparison may be unfair to some but could be a logical question to others.

I believe that this could be one move that could see Moyes out of a job if it doesn’t go well. The supporters are frustrated enough with the lack of investment in the squad. This certainly would help the Scotman’s cause or our wretched owners.
