No-brainer: West Ham have to act on £18m-rated ace they have watched – Opinion

Another day and another striker has appeared on West Ham United’s transfer radar this summer.

According to reliable insider ExWHUemployee, who was speaking on the latest episode of the West Ham Way podcast, Wout Weghorst is a player we have been watching in action for Wolfsburg.

“Wout Weghorst. He’s 6’6”, Dutch guy, scoring a lot of goals for Wolfsburg. We’ve watched him,” he told the podcast.

And, the Holland international is definitely someone worth getting excited about should we decide to act upon what we have seen.

Weghorst had been in incredible form for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga last season, as he managed to bag an impressive 17 goals and seven assists in his debut year for the German outfit across 34 matches (Transfermarkt).

In fact, he has been exceptional in front of goal for much of his career across all competitions, as he recorded 27 goals in 2017/18, 18 in the 16/17 campaign and 15 in the 15/16 season.

Those figures should surely suggest the 26-year-old has what it takes to adapt from one league to another and could potentially achieve the same kind of results if he were to take on the Premier League.

As ExWHUemployee mentioned, he is a tall striker and one that could potentially replace the alleged wantaway Marko Arnautovic this summer at the London Stadium (Sky Sports). His style of play is something that could benefit us and make the Austria international a memory of the past.

According to his traits, which were compiled by WhoScored, Weghorst likes to hold the ball up, is strong in the air (3.4 duals won on average per game) and his finishing ability is clearly a strength of his.

Wolfsburg like to play a 4-3-3 formation, leaving the Dutchman in the middle to fend for the ball, something that he has obviously taken well to. That could benefit West Ham as well, as Manuel Pellegrini likes to adopt a sole striker approach with his favoured 4-1-4-1 approach.

Valued at £18million by Transfermarkt, Weghorst seems to be the player that could be the answer for West Ham this summer as we look to finally find a forward that can score goals, however, as we have seen, he can also offer us so much more on the field as well.

Getting a deal done for the Holland international must surely be considered a no-brainer and one whereby we should be acting upon ahead of the upcoming campaign.
