David Moyes thinks Alan Pardew has done well under serious pressure.

At one time Pardew was the bookies favourite for the chop, but he has seen out a difficult period.

Moyes: ‘Alan Pardew has had a lot to put up with off the field.

‘But on it he has done a really good job, bringing West Ham up and achieving a very high position straight away.

‘There should be no criticism of him, he has handled the job very well.

‘And he will handle the Argentinians’ situation correctly, using them in the right way even if they did arrive at West Ham very quickly and at the last moment.

‘I remember thinking at the time it could be a problem. I heard their supporters saying they were great signings and this was a whole new era, but unless you are in the game you do not realise how much these things can disrupt your side.

‘It is not unusual to see a club having a good first season in the top flight and then finding the second one tougher, and that is what has happened to West Ham.

‘But they finished ninth, got to the FA Cup final, so you couldn’t ask for any more being a West Ham fan or director.

‘People though cannot expect to do well all the time, that is unless you have the money that Chelsea have.

‘But maybe West Ham were going into a difficult period anyway, even before those boys arrived. Maybe those lads took the brunt unfairly for what has happened to West Ham this season.’
