Many West Ham United fans have been split by a claim made by a journalist on Twitter about the latest transfer saga involving their team.
This Maxi Gomez saga has got a strong whiff of the William Carvalho’s about it. #WHUFC

Football.London’s Sam Inkersole likened the current situation involving Celta Vigo and Uruguay striker Maxi Gomez to that of William Carvalho two years ago.
In the summer of 2017, the Hammers embarked on a window-long chase of the Portuguese international which ended in tears and a rather bitter war of words between the two clubs’ management. At the end of it all, West Ham couldn’t get their man.
One supporter agreed with Inkersole while others echoed his sentiment with one difference, that the Irons will end up signing Gomez and more took the opportunity to bring up further similar transfer sagas in east London.
The latest turn in that of the 22-year-old centre-forward is that the Irons will pay his Celta release clause and hope to have the deal completed next week.
Here’s the pick of the reactions to Inkersole’s Tweet from members of the Claret & Blue Army…
This summer has a strong whiff of the Bacca/Lacazette transfer window from a years ago

And Bacca and Dendoncker and…

I don’t think Mario and Manuel would spend this long and put in this effort for someone who truly didn’t wanna come. Celta want more money and we’ve got more chance of doing that. We wouldn’t bid again if they thought we weren’t in with a serious chance.

It does, however, look who is in charge of this transfer compared to the carvalho transfer?
