Police have charged a 25-year-old man with grievous bodily harm following the stabbing of Calum Davenport at his home in Bedfordshire.

Worrell Whitehurst, of Derby, was also charged with actual bodily harm having hurt Davenport’s mother in the same incident, as well as driving while disqualified and possession of a bladed article.

Davenport, 26, is making a steady recovery in hospital after it was understood Whitehurst had stabbed the defender in both legs in the early hours of Saturday morning.

This news comes contrary to reports that Davenport was under threat of losing one of his legs because of the stabbing, that were leaked earlier this morning.

A 19-year-old man was released on police bail pending further investigation, having previously been in custody suspected to be involved in the attack.

A police spokeswoman said:
‘A man has now been charged and is due to appear at Bedford magistrates’ court.’
