Barcelona forward Eidur Gudjohnson has agreed to move to West Ham on loan, with only a small part of the deal left to complete.

Gudjohnson, 30, is looking to leave the La Liga Champions having fallen out of favour at Nou Camp.

The Iceland international has agreed to move to Upton Park on a season long loan deal, with the two clubs only left to agree who pays the striker’s wages. The Hammers were said to be in no financial position to buy the former Chelsea player outright.

Elsewhere, it is understood that West Ham boss Franco Zola is close to finalising a move for another striker, Marouane Chamakh, of Bordeaux.

The 25-year-old is expected to wrap up a move to the Hammers later in the week, subject to funds gained from the sale of James Collins to either Stoke or Aston Villa.

West Ham have been desperately short of striking options of late, with Dean Ashton absent with a long term ankle problem, Carlton Cole is left as the only recognised striker going into Tuesday’s Carling Cup clash with Millwall.
