Just £22.2m: Pellegrini must make shrewd transfer and bring exciting playmaker to West Ham – Opinion

|

West Ham United are believed to have reignited their interest in Villarreal’s Pablo Fornals, according to a report by AS.

The Spanish newspaper have claimed Manuel Pellegrini remains keen on bringing the Spanish playmaker to England after failing in their attempt to sign him back in January.

It is said the Hammers would have to meet the €25million (£22.2m) release clause the 23-year-old currently has in his contract with the La Liga outfit.

And, if West Ham’s interest in the playmaker is true, then we feel we should be looking to do all we can to bring him to the London Stadium this summer.

On the face of it, his five goals and six assists in 50 appearances across all competitions (Transfermarkt) may not make for exciting reading, however, there is plenty about his game for us to get enthusiastic about.

The young midfielder is the type of player we desperately need to help take us forward as he has all the qualities to develop into a top talent in the future.

As well as his ability to shoot from long distance, Fornals has an excellent range of passing as he can provide attackers with killer through balls and key passes, whilst his dribbling is also exceptional. Having a player like him in the middle of the park will allow us to move into the forward areas with more fluidity and help make us more of a threat.

His versatility is also an attractive trait of his, so perhaps Manuel Pellegrini would look to play him out on the wing at times to change things up if things are not quite working in a match.

Although we might have an allegedly restricted transfer budget of around £30m plus player sales (per Football.London), £22.2m would be a steal for a player of Fornals’ quality and with plenty of time on his side still in regards to his career, it would have to be considered a rather shrewd signing.
