West Ham United are one of several clubs in England that are taking an interest in AS Monaco defender Guillermo Maripan.

The Chilean centre-back only recently joined the club last summer from the La Liga side Deportivo Alaves for €15m (£13.4m).

The Hammers are alongside Tottenham Hotspur and Watford that are interested in acquiring the services of the 26-year-old, who is contracted at the Ligue 1 side until 2024.

The report claims that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Maripan and sees him as an option for him in his side’s backline. We were previously linked with him while Manuel Pellegrini was in charge and that interest has not appeared to have gone away.

Speaking to Al Aire Libre, the Monaco man admitted that he would be open for a move to the Premier League.

Would Guillermo Maripan be a good signing for West Ham?

Yes

No

No

“Personally, I’ve always liked the Premier League a lot, I’ve always wanted to play there and I am aiming there,” he said.

If West Ham were to be successful in their pursuit of the Chilean, he would cost the club around €20m (£17.9m).

Before the league was completed early, Maripan scored two goals from 20 starts in the league this season and accumulated an impressive average of 2.1 tackles, 3.3 clearances, 4.6 long balls and a pass success rate of 88%.

On stats alone, he would be the perfect addition to our squad and someone that we could utilise to build from the back going forward.

Despite this, there will be stiff competition for his signature, especially from Spurs. I believe he would get more game time with us than he would with the north London outfit.
